Here at Blu-Ban we believe in giving back. Part of our mission is not only to improve the lives of those wearing our glasses, but to improve the life of society around the world. We believe in the butterfly effect, that small changes, such as the products we choose to buy, can have a large effect on a complex system, the society we live in. Together we want to make a change.
Since the founding of Blu-Ban, our values have stayed the same. We want to increase the quality of life of both customers and humanity. Your purchase would achieve both!
We have partnered with Work for Good to donate £1.50 of every pair sold to Samaritans, a registered charity. When thinking about who to support, we wanted to focus on something that follows these values and we feel that Samaritans does this perfectly. Mental health is an important issue that affects most people over a lifetime that not enough people are speaking out about. We are here to change that.
The Bigger Picture
There were 5,691 suicides in England and Wales in 2019, that is 321 more compared to 2018. 11 in 100,000 people die of suicide. Almost 800,000 people die by suicide each year. 1 person dies from suicide every 40 seconds.
Sucide Rates and Young People
The rate for females under-25 has increased by 93.8% since 2012. Suicide is the second leading cause of death in individuals aged 15-29.
Depression is one of the leading causes of disability, affecting 264 million people. The global economy loses about $1 Trillion dollars every year in productivity from depression and anxiety.
Every seven seconds, Samaritans answer a call for help.
They're there for anyone who's struggling to cope, who needs someone to listen without judgement or pressure.
Samaritans are not just for moments of crisis, they take action to prevent the crisis.
They give people ways to cope and the skills to be there for others in need. They encourage, promote and celebrate those moments of connection between people that can save lives.
They offer listening and support to people and communities in times of need.
We share the value that every life lost to suicide is a tragedy and Samaritans' vision is that fewer people die by suicide.
